Out of all the things that you can name a crochet business, why name it Odd Duck Crochet? Well, I've lived with chronic illness almost my entire life. So growing up, sometimes things were a bit different for me depending on how I was feeling and what I was capable of. My mom is a bit of an eccentric person and her quirky outlook on life rubbed off on me. As a teen, we came up with our own concept of "The Ugly Duckling." Whenever either me or my mom said or did something a bit unique because of who we are as people, we'd go "gobble, gobble, I'm an odd duck" and laugh it off. Whether this was a turkey pretending to be a duck or a duck pretending to be a turkey didn't matter. What mattered was this: sometimes people will look at you weird for being yourself and that's okay! You can either try to change and try to fit in (even if doing so makes you unhappy) or you can accept who you were uniquely created to be and be happy that you're an odd duck. With everything I make, I hope it's a reminder to people to be themselves and love what they love, even if it makes people raise an eyebrow. My goal is to help people smile with what I make, even if the thing making them smile is random or silly.
